Guys and Dolls
Spring 2017
Guys and Dolls was my first set design ever, which looking back on it was a very odd idea. Designing and realizing a full scale broadway musical is extremely challenging, however I do take great pride in this set. Guys and Dolls is an extremely cartoonish show in its performance, so I wanted the set to reflect that idea. To reach the perfect balance of cartoonism and realism, I made sure that each set had a balance of both, whether it be through the bright colors and the realistic building styles on Broadway, the cartoonish cafe/bar and the plants/mountains of Havana, even the neutralizing brown background and the bright curtains and silhouettes in the Hot Box. It is meant to enhance the crazy characteristics of our performers and breathe life into every single scene.
